The Center for Systems Engineering on the RWTH Aachen Campus is delighted about the membership of the BMW Group, which was recently announced. Together with 25 other industry partners from a wide range of sectors, the interdisciplinary team of scientists is jointly developing the topic of digitally continuous, model-based systems engineering.
“The collaboration with the BMW Group is particularly interesting because BMW wants to set up the future development process in a consistently function-oriented way following its own well-founded research. This approach is in line with the concepts of CSE and enables us to continuously design long-term digital consistency in increasingly virtual and model-based product development processes. In the process, different departments can be networked with each other and suppliers can also be integrated,” explains the centre’s spokesperson, Prof. Dr. Georg Jacobs.
The Center for Systems Engineering combines processes, methods, tools and models in the field of model-based systems engineering. The goal is to develop the necessary key technologies for the product development process of tomorrow and to test them holistically in order to contribute to an acceleration and reduction of effort in product development.
“We are very pleased that with the BMW Group we have now also gained a vehicle manufacturer as a member as a pioneer for the upcoming paradigm shift in product creation in the automotive industry,” emphasises Prof. Dr. Jacobs.
The BMW Group sees great potential in the consortial cooperation in the Center for Systems Engineering. “The Center for Systems Engineering as a community of practice provides the right mix of scientific expertise and practical experience to be able to design and implement model-based product development. We are therefore pleased to be able to implement bilateral projects as well as consortial projects together with other partners,” explains Dr Stefan Floeck, Head of Body & Exterior & Interior Development at the BMW Group.
