SEC20 – Another digital success!

At the beginning of November, the Systems Engineering Congress went into its second round and was hosted in a digital format this year. The initiators of the Center for Systems Engineering (CSE) Prof. Georg Jacobs, Prof. Bernhard Rumpe and Prof. Günther Schuh invited to discuss new approaches and methods of (Model-Based) Systems Engineering as well as its industrial implementation and gathered company representatives from various industries at the congress.

Another innovation: This year, the SEC joined the newly created forum Engineering Excellence together with the seventh Complexity Management Congress and the first R&D Intelligence Congress. The forum offered a unique digital networking platform for the approx. 250 participants and exhibitors to exchange ideas, questions and innovations in the fields of systems engineering, complexity management and market intelligence.

The SEC offered a number of exciting presentations over two days, providing the audience with a successful and varied program on the topic of systems engineering.

The speakers were from the sectors of vehicle engineering (BPW), equipment engineering (Miele), software development (Siemens), materials technology (Saint Gobain), engine engineering (MAN Energy Solutions), and agricultural machinery (John Deere).

Prof. Günther Schuh opened the three congresses with an overall keynote on the topic of “Engineering Excellence – to increase the resilience of manufacturing companies”, providing comprehensive motivation for the necessity of the individual congress topics.

For the opening of the event’s second day, Prof. Rumpe and Prof. Jacobs presented the recent state of research in the field of Model-Based Systems Engineering for Agile Product Development in their joint keynote. They explained the paradigm of functional development and how system models have to be created to apply the agile methods of software engineering in mechanical engineering.

Not only because it is the occasion for us to reflect on our work results and prepare them for presentation at the SEC, but especially because the direct feedback and the questions from our industry partners provide important impulses for our further work. The two center managers, Dr. Joerg Berroth and Dr. Michael Riesener, were also very satisfied with the second edition of the congress:
